Gluten is a protein in grain. It is mostly found in wheat, rye, and barley.
Not a problem so far. So what’s the problem that we need a gluten-free diet?
Some people react to gluten. Not everyone. So how can gluten be the culprit? The problem is with the person who reacts. If gluten were the problem, everyone would experience the same thing.
Fix the person who needs the gluten-free diet and you won’t need the gluten-free diet.
Having said that, foods such as wheat, corn, and soy are almost always a problem for everyone, subtly at least. These foods tend to irritate the lining of the intestine and cause intestinal conditions such as celiac disease. Why is this? It never used to be the case. Because these foods more than ever before are genetically modified. There are foreign protein and other components that our bodies have never seen before. This is causing the problem.
A gluten-free diet is one that does not contain grains. Grains should be kept to a minimum. Gluten is not the entire issue—it is the grain in general. Be careful on your grain consumption.
