This diet began in Florida. The good part of the South Beach diet is the idea of restricting bad foods
and eating good foods.
Specifically, the "bad carbohydrates" are the foods to keep out of your diet.
These burn up quickly in your body and leave a high glycemic index. This creates an insulin resistance
syndrome—an impairment of the hormone insulin's ability to properly process fat or sugar. Too many of
these kinds of foods will cause hyper/hypo glycemia and then diabetes.
Secondly, "bad fats", such as saturated fat and trans fat, are restricted or eliminated. These
contribute to an increase in cardiovascular disease.
So here we have a diet that begins to get rid of the bad food. Hurray! The Southbeach diet is a good
