~ Food ~ Soul Food ~
Soul food comes from the creation of the slave population in the American South.
The plantation owners would throw away bits of leftover food or leave unused grains or discarded vegetables
in the fields.
A few creative cooks used these scraps as the base for their cooking. They used the
worst parts of the meat and the tops of root vegetables and changed them into something delectable
and hearty. Many of the soul food recipes cooked today comes from these humble origins.
Every ethnicity has their own traditional foods, their own version of soul food. Some are healthy
some not so.
